We’ve discussed a lot of breeds but few stranger than this one. Here’s some English Bulldog Puggle mix information – a 3-way cross between unique breeds. As Puggles themselves are a cross between Pugs and Beagles, adding an English Bulldog to the mix makes things even more complicated and interesting.
There are some health complications you may need to watch out for with this cross, however. Additionally, crossbreeds are always unpredictable in terms of physical characteristics and temperament. This goes double for 3-way crossbreeds. Nevertheless, a healthy English Bulldog Puggle cross can be a wonderful family pet. So, let’s go over all you need to know below.
English Bulldog Puggle Mix Information On Physical Characteristics and Appearance
Describing the physical aspect of the Puggle Bulldog mix is… complicated. With Puggles themselves being a mix, they too have very varying attributes. Add a stocky English bully into the mix and you get a mystery box of a dog. Additionally, this triple cross is not recognized by any reputable kennel club out there which makes information even more scarce. Even just the Puggle cross alone isn’t really recognized by most clubs.
So, all we can do is give you some pointers as to what you can expect your English Bulldog Puggle pup to look like when it grows up. In general, any dog crossbreed will have physical characteristics that go somewhere in between the two parent breeds. So, let’s quickly describe English Bulldogs and Puggles:
English Bulldogs Physical Characteristics:
- 12 to 16 inches (30.5 to 40.5 cm) height at the shoulder
- 40 to 55 lbs (18 to 25 kg) total adult weight
- 8 to 10 years average lifespan

Puggle Physical Characteristics:
- 10 to 12 inches (25.4 to 30.5 cm) height at the shoulder
- 14 to 18 lbs (6.3 to 8 kg) total adult weight
- 12 to 15 years average lifespan
As you can see, one big difference between the two parent breeds is that English Bulldogs are over two times heavier than Puggles. This means that the mother in the cross must always be the Bulldog. Otherwise, a female Puggle may have major difficulties giving birth to the cross.
It also means that the weight and body type of the cross can vary anywhere between 15 lbs and 55 lbs (7 and 25 kg). This is a huge variation and it means that you’ll never know what to expect from these pups.
At least the height will be somewhere consistent and it will usually be somewhere between 10 and 16 inches (25.4 and 40.5 cm) at the shoulder. The lifespan can also vary between the pretty short 8 years and the impressive 15 years.
As for some more English Bulldog Puggle mix information – one consistent thing is that this dog will always be short-faced. Unfortunately, this is a bad thing because Brachycephalic Syndrome in dogs has a lot of negative health side effects. This alone is a big reason why most kennel clubs don’t recognize the Puggle mix, let alone its cross with the English Bulldog.
One good news is that this breed will almost always be short-haired and easy to groom. Puggles do tend to shed like crazy but at least it’s short hair. Regular, quick, and easy grooming sessions should take care of that problem. The dog will likely also inherit the skin folds of the English Bulldog so this will need regular cleaning and baths. Don’t forget the tail pocket too.
Puggle Bulldog Mix Temperament
On to the more consistent good news – these dogs will usually have a wonderful and family-friendly personality. The reason we know that is because all three parent breeds are great family pets. So, with the right socialization and obedience training, this cross should even be great for families with kids.
Smart, gentle, and loyal, these dogs can also be a bit stubborn too but that’s nothing a good owner can’t manage. They are great with kids which is another reason they make for good family pets. With the right approach, these dogs can get along with other canines and pets too.
Another thing to note is separation anxiety. As is the case with other highly social and lovable breeds, this mix doesn’t tolerate being alone for too long. If you live alone or all members of the household work away from home, this may not be the right breed for you.
English Bulldog Puggle Mix Information On Exercise Needs
This cross won’t need a great deal of outdoor exercise and is generally a good fit for apartment dwellers. About an hour a day outside should be enough. Throw in a long weekend hike too whenever you can – this cross has a high endurance even if it’s not a highly energetic sprinter. The rest of their energy they can easily expel at home with toys and playtime.
That being said, be careful not to overheat your dog when you’re outside. Especially in warm weather, Brachycephalic breeds can easily develop problems breathing.
English Bulldog and Puggle Mix Information On Health Specifics
Health is a big issue for these dogs. That’s why you should always get such across from a reputable breeder that can guarantee its health. Otherwise, your dog may get saddled with any of the following problems:
- Hip dysplasia
- Yeast infections
- Patellar luxation
- Eye problems
- Breathing difficulties
- Skin ailments
- Obesity
